Osman Lins’ trip to Paris was a foundational experience, engendering a writer who simultaneously discovered and created himself. On that occasion, Lins undertook a true writing path, delving into the attentive observation of foreign culture, while building a more accurate look at himself and his own country. In the work Marinheiro de primeira viagem, which make up that process, memory is created between life and imagination, between the palpable and the infinite possibilities, so that any concrete experience remains mutable, susceptible to imagination. Based on these reflections, the article discusses the impact Lins’ stay in Paris had on his creative process, using the voyage as a metaphor for his writing.
