História e Linguagem: uma perspectiva discursiva

The article is designed to shed light on the relationships between History and Linguistic Sciences, and between History language. The first section points to Linguistic Sciences as an instrument for studying the history of man, and to History as an instrument for studying language. The second section focuses on language, on the one hand, as the means of putting History into words, and, on the other hand, as a qualified source of historical information. Considering language as discourse, the article analyses historians as readers production sense from documents and as writers constructing historical meanings. Ginsburgs book, The Cheese and the Worms, is taken to illustrate the central thesis.
