Abstract

The present study aims to investigate whether there is a significant difference between ethical and humanistic training of a licensed practical nurse and a registered nurse in the same area. The licensed practical nurse program focuses on the professionals' technical training intended for the labour market. As a result, the number of credit hours required is much lower than in nursing degree courses that provide a more holistic and comprehensive education compared to technical courses. Therefore, the present study considers that undergraduate courses are better able to provide training that focus on nursing ethical and humanistic aspects. The research was developed in a city in the state of Paraná, with the participation of registered and practical nurses working in hospitals and basic health units of the Unified Health System. The study showed no significant differences related to ethics and professional practice among registered and licensed practical nurses.
