The present research is a qualitative case study that aims to identify the mothers' experience of the home care service of premature infants after hospital discharge. Interviews were carried out at the mothers'home and then analysed and categorized according to Bardin's methodological framework. Four individuals participated in the study. Two categories emerged from the analyses of their account: "homecare: imaginary and reality", and "information: gaps between teaching and learning". According to the mothers the service should offer: information on vaccination, preparation and administration of medications, and an efficient flowchart with information on support services that will monitor the infant after hospital discharge. The health professional commitment must be constant, especially regarding the baby follow up program and making sure that homecare will be properly carried outDownloads
