Abstract

This study reports the experience of nursing teachers and service nurses on the reliability of reusing surgical pads. The methodology intended to obtain the maximum possible information on the reprocessing of surgical pads and the reliability of their reuse in operating theaters. As a source of consultation, we sought nurses who are experts in surgical procedures and sterilization and reviewed scientific literature, as well as the existing legislation for inputs to inform this procedure. We monitored the path of the surgical pad from the operating theater until its return for reuse. The discussion showed the difficulties in guaranteeing the reliability and quality of the reprocessed surgical pads for use in operating theaters.
