Abstract

This study is a qualitative-descriptive approach attempting to understand the point of view of family caregivers of dependent persons in the town of Ijuí, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Eight caregivers took part in a semi-structured interview. Analyzing the data we built an analytical category: living as a family caregiver: the point of view of family caregivers in rural areas. Discussing the daily routine of family care, the bonds that link caregiver and patient, the onus of being a caregiver, the financial difficulties and seeking help to provide care. We concluded that family caregivers see care as related to duty, reclusion and facing difficulties.
