In recent years, art museums have acknowledged the need of acquiring, cataloguing, and exhibiting a variety of documents related to the so-called Latin American conceptualist practices. An important characteristic of these alternative practices is their ephemeral, immaterial, performative, conceptual or non-objectual existence. Reconstructing these documental objects and reenacting them within the museum imply a series of curatorial and cataloguing dilemmas, because of their fluctuant actu-alization as artworks or artistic documentation. This brief text analyzes the reconstruction of Masacre de Puerto Montt (1969) by Luis Camnitzer, and elaborates on a series of problems derived from the reinstallation of historical documentation.
